Darcy is SIX. Happy Birthday Darcy!

Our Darcy turned 6 on October 5.  And while I am dying to talk all about her cowgirl party with her kindergarten friends, and her cute outfit, and her cake and the fact that my parents were here for it, and how she's been playing with her Strawberry Shortcake toys ever since, I really need to take a step back and just celebrate DARCY.

There are just so many reasons to be proud of Darcy.  At 6, she is just starting to write her name on her own, and it is fabulous to behold.  That was one of my major goals for her for kindergarten and we have all worked HARD at it and she has conquered the challenge!  She recognizes most of her letters (lower case letters are still a challenge - WHY does there have to be two sets of letters?).  At school they talked about learning to read and Darcy is convinced that in that moment she actually LEARNED to read, so now she refuses to listen to talk of "learning" and thinks she is truly a fabulous reader : )   This summer she started pedaling her bike with training wheels - another hard-fought victory that was cause for celebration.  She skied last winter ahead of our expectations and we are dying to see what she has in store for us this winter.  She truly has a tremendous imagination and cracks us up with all of her pretending.

Mostly, Darcy is just a critical part of this family.  She is the middle of the Darcy Sandwich.  She can be the most angry, but also the most excited of any of the kids. She has a brother and a sister that will stick up for her under any circumstance.  She loves her sister and her brother and her daddy and sometimes her mommy and her friends and neighbors and cousins, etc.  I wrote when she was 18 months old that her smile lights up the room.  That is still one of the truest things about Darcy.

I feel like Darcy has been part of my life FOREVER, so sometimes I can't believe she is ONLY six and sometimes I take a step back and can't believe she is ALREADY six.  Like a good wine, Darcy is getting even better with age.  Thank you, Darcy, for being our special six year old!  We love you!
